Job Title: Human Resources Business Partner

New York Based (Global) Hybrid Working

Reports to: Global Head of Human Resources, London Based


Job Purpose

The HRBP is a member of a global HR team focused on supporting the New York and Washington, D.C. offices as well as delivering a quality HR service to employees across ISDA based offices including, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Brussels and London. The HRBP will be a primary contact point for employees, managers and leaders, providing HR consultation, advice and practical solutions. The HRBP will proactively identify changes in regulatory and legal requirements for the US, implementing standards to ensure compliance as well as overseeing business as usual HR activities in NYC and DC including US benefit programs, recruitment, policy updates, managing HR Information System, learning & development and resolving conflict. The HRBP will share ownership and responsibility for managing the global HR Information System. The HRBP will have opportunities to lead HR projects and implement continuous improvement globally.


Duties and Responsibilities

Relationship Management:

  • Promote positive employee relations through design, communication and interpretation of human resources policies and programs. Foster an environment in which employees and managers can comfortably discuss job-related concerns. Take accountability on any steps to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Coach, influence and guide managers to support engagement, talent, development, recruitment and retention
  • Maintain expert knowledge of on various federal, state, and local employment laws and share information and solutions on addressing
  • Point of initial contact regarding ISDA policies and processes with employees, legal team and external counsel
  • Coach and advise managers through aspects of performance management including setting job accountabilities and goals, and delivering performance feedback, support with development plans where appropriate
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships across ISDA through effective counsel on HR and other operational issues
  • Partner with the leadership team and managers to develop recruiting, staff development, and retention plans that et both short- and long-term business goals


  • Work closely with the HR Manager to oversee the US benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and disability programs
  • Examine possible plan designs and benefits cost changes during the annual open enrollment period
  • Serve as point person for US benefit inquiries from employees and outside vendors
  • Coordinate employee leaves in accordance with FMLA, STD, LTD, NY Paid Family Leave and DC Paid Family leave when applicable
  • Manage COBRA enrollments and benefit terminations


  • Work closely with the HR Team on recruitment and sourcing positions within ISDA
  • Initiates the hiring process by reviewing job descriptions, developing hiring strategies, facilitation of selection process and providing advice to hiring managers
  • Ensures appropriate and timely communication of hiring decisions to all stakeholders
  • Directly source for candidates utilizing LinkedIn Recruiter. Identify passive candidates and establish initial lines of communication


  • Maintain HR actions on global HRIS (SagePeople), run reports and manage operational human resources tasks using the system
  • Provide employee self-service and manager training for the HRIS
  • Ensure accurate and up to date information is retained and appropriate escalation for approvals is followed
  • Assist with conducting compensation analysis related to promotions, equity adjustments, retention awards, incentive compensation and making appropriate recommendations
  • Lead and collaborate on HR projects and initiatives
  • Develop improvements to onboarding plan for to create a comprehensive and engaging onboarding experience
  • Conduct follow up meetings with new employees and make recommendations for improvement based on the findings of those meetings
  • Responsible for ensuring exit interviews are carried out and that any findings in terms of trends and insights are fed back so that improvements can be made
  • Responsible for ensuring all leaver actions are completed


Relevant Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to quickly gain credibility at all levels, excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrate initiative and proactively contribute ideas, views and recommendations and take ownership for implementing
  • Strong ability to promote change and manage resistance and have difficult conversations while maintaining working relationships
  • Expert knowledge of local employment laws and regulations
  • Must have expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must be a critical thinker, problem solver and agile learner
  • Self-starter and eager to grow and develop
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including collaboration and coaching skills


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in any subject is desirable
  • HR Qualification/ MSc in HR is desirable
  • Experience in the banking and financial services sector is desirable
  • Proven working experience as an HRBP or HR Generalist (5-7+ years)
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience within multiple human resource disciplines, including employee relations, talent acquisition and development, compensation practices, performance management, HRIS management, and federal and states employment laws
