Day 1

9:00 AM Introduction and Welcoming Remarks

This session will provide an overview of ISDA’s collateral management transformation initiatives, focusing on quantifiable operational improvements and data standards.

9:20 AM Onboarding Custodians for Segregated Accounts

Streamlining the onboarding process for segregated accounts will not only reduce resources and costs but will improve operational efficiencies and decrease counterparty and custodian risks. In this session, firms will learn how to implement a comprehensive program to onboard custodians for non-cleared margin requirements and other necessary segregated accounts, including both triparty and third-party segregated structures. Industry experts will consider relationship management, technology, know-your-customer/compliance and documentation tactics.

The session will conclude with a demonstration of how industry services and processes are being used to improve the custodial onboarding process.

  • How a streamlined onboarding process reduces resource time for the pledgor and secured party
  • How digital documentation negotiation reduces both resource time and counterparty and custodian risks
  • How the Common Domain Model is used to streamline the document negotiation process (account control agreement and/or eligible collateral schedule) and the importing of data into operating systems

Developing a full portfolio reconciliation and dispute resolution strategy for variation margin, independent amount and initial margin under the margin rules for non-cleared derivatives will reduce operational, counterparty and regulatory risks. This panel will explore opportunities for improvement, review a sample use case, and explain how to build a cost-benefit analysis that will help drive the business case for investment.

The session will conclude with a demonstration of how industry services and processes are being used to improve portfolio reconciliation and dispute resolution.

Reducing manual processing of derivatives margin call communication, margin call affirmation, collateral settlement and collateral transfer confirmation will decrease resource costs, improve operational risks, and reduce capital and liquidity costs. This session will describe how firms can assess their current margin call and settlement process and build a business case for implementing settlement automation.

The session will conclude with a demonstration of how industry services and processes are being used to automate collateral settlement.

  • Understand how vendors and infrastructure providers have used ISDA tools and market standards to achieve interoperability and industry wide efficiencies
  • Decrease operational and counterparty risks related to derivatives margin calls and collateral settlement
  • Understand how settlement automation can be expanded to other derivatives payments, such as substitutions and interest payments, and additional collateralized products
  • Meeting regulatory margin requirements for non-cleared derivatives

Understand how to build a digital documentation strategy that can reduce negotiation time and streamline account onboarding in collateral management systems and operations. This panel will cover some of the ISDA initiatives and look at how firms can get involved with the ISDA Clause Library and Taxonomy, ISDA Create and the Common Domain Model.

  • Reduce resource time/costs related to digital documentation strategies
  • Understand how vendors and infrastructure providers have used ISDA resources and market standards to achieve interoperability and industry wide efficiencies
  • Decrease operational and counterparty risks related to derivatives with digital documentation
  • Understand how digital documentation can be expanded to other derivatives documents and collateralized products like repo and securities financing
  • Meeting regulatory margin requirements for non-cleared derivatives

10:20 AM Using the CDM to Drive Collateral Management Standards

This panel will provide an overview of collateral initiatives using the Common Domain Model (CDM), and will look at how the CDM will help solve current industry challenges. Panelists will describe use cases to show how existing collateral management processes can be improved.
