In January 2023, ISDA launched new standard documentation for the trading of digital asset derivatives, intended to bring greater clarity to this asset class by creating a consistent contractual framework for digital asset derivatives under the umbrella of the ISDA Master Agreement. This event will provide a comprehensive description of the ISDA Digital Asset Derivatives Definitions and set out areas of potential future work, including use in distributed-ledger-technology(DLT)-based applications, including smart contracts.

9:00 AM Introduction and Welcoming Remarks

9:05 AM Overview of the ISDA Digital Asset Derivatives Definitions

The panelists will give an overview of the ISDA Digital Asset Derivatives Definitions, a newly established standardized contractual framework for digital asset derivatives. The panellists will discuss how the definitions reduce credit and market risk in the digital asset derivatives market by setting clear provisions for execution and settlement. They will explain how the definitions tackle the unique risks associated with derivatives referencing digital assets, such as the variety of price sources, blockchain forks, and the round-the-clock operation of digital asset markets. Panellists will also explore potential future documentation work in this space.

10:20 AM Break

10:30 AM Implementation and Smart Derivatives Contracts

ISDA created the ISDA Digital Asset Derivatives Definitions with a flexible format so that they can easily respond to future market and technology evolution. The definitions also use a controlled language structure to clearly identify and outline operational processes and events. During the panel discussion, experts will examine how this strategy could aid their future implementation within a DLT-based infrastructure, including within a smart contract, and the importance of the Common Domain Model in achieving this vision.
